On a Break

Taken in Venice in 2004 shows the gondolier having a rest during his day of moving people through the canals and being romantic. There are approximately 400 licensed gondoliers in Venice and a similar number of boats, down from the thousands that travelled the canals centuries ago. These gondolas are elegantly crafted today as opposed to the shabby homemade boats of the past.
