Iris Apfel turned 100 on the 29th of August 2021 is proof that you’re only as old as you feel.
Recognisable by her XXL round glasses, her coloured necklaces and colourful wardrobe, she is considered one of the leading figures in fashion and decoration in the United States.
In 1950 she created the fabric house Old World Weavers with her late husband Carl, and worked for decades assisting with décor and restoration projects at the White House for nine different presidents from Harry S Truman to Bill Clinton.
Her first big job in beauty and fashion came when she was 90 when she developed a limited-edition collection of make-up for Mac cosmetics in 2011.
“An outfit isn’t complete without a signature accessory, or many, to show off your individuality. Mine are glasses — the bigger and brighter, the better.”
– Iris Apfel
