It’s the time of year where we can sit back and enjoy family and friends. Bake biscuits and cakes with the children and start the decorating and festive cheer.
Red seems to still be the Christmas colour. It is fir tree green with red candles, apples, Santa’s robe, the nutcracker in his uniform, Christmas balls and so much more. When you think of rustic Christmas, it is often the familiar pieces and rituals you know from your childhood that give you a feeling of comfort. It is the beloved traditions that we take with us when we leave home. And when we find a partner, rituals from two backgrounds become new traditions.
For me personally, white and silver decorations and lights give a modern elegance at Christmas time, which creates a relaxing mood. I enjoy putting on the Christmas carols, light fragrant candles and start planning how to decorate the table.

To get you in the mood for the festive season – herewith a cocktail recipe, slightly sweet and a little fruity.
Christmas Old Fashioned
- You’ll need some cranberry syrup, angostura bitters, sugar, dried cranberries, an orange wedge and of course, a good quality whisky.
- Gently crush a small handful of dried cranberries and place them in the glass. Add in a measure of whisky and let it sit for at least 30 minutes. Drain through a fine sieve. Reserve the re-hydrated cranberries for another use.
- Run a drop of syrup around the top of your glass and dip into sugar before starting.
- Add the whiskey and a dash of cranberry syrup. Top up your glass with the Angostura bitters and give it a stir.
- Garnish with a slice of orange and it’s ready to serve.
